Hotel Brooklyn to open in Manchester
The new 189-room Hotel Brooklyn in Manchester is scheduled to open in February 2020. The interior design is inspired by the Brooklyn district of New York, which the Squid Inc design team say is similar to Manchester in terms of industrial growth, culture and strength. The hotel offers meeting and event spaces with capacity for up to 220 delegates and is located on the top floor providing panoramic views of the city.
Accor opens Novotel and Aparthotel Adagio in Leicester
Accor has opened two new properties in Leicester, under the Novotel and Aparthotel Adagio brands. The adjacent new build properties are located within the city’s Great Central Square development, opposite Highcross Shopping Centre. The 154-room Novotel Leicester is housed within a ten-storey building and features a bar and restaurant, as well as a gym and five meeting spaces.
Voco opens first hotel in South of England
Voco Reading has opened, marking the brands debut in the South of England. The 201-room hotel reflects the characteristics of the Voco offering; a modern hotel experience for business and leisure guests. Located outside the town of Reading, the hotel is within close proximity to Green Park, a well-known business hub, and within easy reach of Central London.
Mama Shelter’s second property in Paris opens
Mama Shelter opened its second Paris property, Mama Paris West, in December last year. The 207-room hotel offers nine fully equipped meeting spaces, including small co-working spaces, rooftop cocktail lounge with views over Paris and is conveniently located close to the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre, one of Europe’s largest exhibition complexes.
Hilton to open two hotels in Portugal
Hilton is opening two hotels in Portugal under its Curio Collection by Hilton brand. The Emerald House Lisbon, which will open in the Portuguese capital in summer 2020, featuring 67 rooms, restaurant, bar and fitness centre. The Boeira Garden Hotel Porto Gaia in Porto, which opened last December featuring 44 guest rooms, meeting rooms, rooftop bar, fitness centre and business centre. The hotel will be in full operation with an additional 80 rooms in spring 2020. Read more
Hyatt opens two hotels in Manchester
Hyatt Hotels has announced the opening of two hotels in Manchester. The 212-room Hyatt Regency Manchester and 116-room Hyatt House Manchester offer seven state-of-the-art meeting rooms and two private event spaces alongside a variety of other shared facilities. Oldest hotel in Canary Islands reopens
Once attracting the likes of Winston Churchill, Agatha Christie and Prince Charles, the restored Santa Catalina hotel dates back to 1890. Following a £21.4 million restoration project, the five-star hotel offers 204 rooms, a top restaurant a rooftop infinity pool. Santa Catalina is a great fit for conferences and big events, with the hotel providing fully equipped function rooms designed to host a variety of events.
Melia Hotels has partnered with Climatetrade
Melia Hotels has partnered with Climatetrade, a leading Spanish start-up in carbon-credit management, to allow customers to engage directly with combatting climate change. Customers can redeem Melia Rewards points to acquire carbon credits and support environmental projects. Melia Hotels International becomes the first hotel company to offer a loyalty programme which gives members, the opportunity to become directly involved with the purchase of carbon credits. Read more
London Odeon opens cinematic event space
Odeon has opened its brand-new Islington Square cinema, launching Odeon Luxe & Dine and a brand- new event space. The cinema has high-speed Wi-Fi and a dedicated on-site events team in place for business events. The cinema screen can be used for business presentations as well as screenings with 202 fully-reclining seats with built-in tables across seats, for up to 250 delegates.
Plans revealed for a new Edinburgh arena
Lothian Leisure Development is working on a new 8,000 capacity indoor arena in Edinburgh with the NEC group based in Birmingham. A 30-acre site in Straiton has been secured. Proposals for the wider development include a conference centre, retail and leisure space, a cinema and two hotels, along with the 8,000-capacity venue.
